Bread Observation Paper

Improved Essays
The aged man hunches meaningfully over the smooth glassy table with a flour-crusted loaf of bread resting on the surface. The reflection of the table mimics the bread’s unmoving position. The freshly baked loaf of bread lies next to the firmly planted elbows of the elderly man. Next to the bread lies a razor-sharp knife with a wooden handle, and next to that, a half-empty seemingly charred bowl. A strong aroma from the soup sifts through the air as the old man inhales and exhales. His white hair tucks neatly behind his ears, as his rough beard scruffs the collar of his jacket. Green seams line his wooly coat, and the red and green pattern race over each other like interconnecting streams of water. Wrinkles burrow deeply into the man’s forehead

By consciously creating with a loose stroke he is able to give an unpolished and unkempt quality to his subject matter. The blotchy tonality that the skin tone color gives off does not work in favor for the man but gives him an exposed quality as he is not idealized and highly polished as a Classical rendering of a figure would be but stripped to show authenticity. Thus, it works like a sheen overlay that heightens the lost look that the man holds and allows the viewer the ability to interpret this as not being a figure of high stature or esteem. This idea is fully delivered in the gaze of the man who looks beyond to the right and is off focused from the viewer and glazed over. The application around the eyes gives a lack luster quality to the almost listless eyes that speaks to a hard and unfavorable life.…

A Brief Glance at Rostin Yates The cathedral was the only unrefined building for fifty kilometres. Grasping at the sky, the peak of the church clawed the clouds, a shard against smooth architecture. It was dingy and the walls were covered in years of smog. It had fallen into abandon, its large oaken doors cracked and chipped.…

The text that I am going to analyze in this work has been extracted from the movie “The Shawshank Redemption”. This film tells the story about Andy Dufresne, a respectable accountant who is unfairly accused of murdering his wife and sentenced to imprisonment for life. He is sent to Shawshank prison, where he meets Red, an old man who has spent more than a half of his life living there. Despite they are two very different men, they become friends; sharing his time and thoughts. The text I have chosen, presents a conversation between the two characters, who face the same situation from two different points of view.…

The Crow in the Woods The Crow in the Woods by John Updike is unlike any other story I have read before. The author does an odd but wonderful job in describing in detail the thoughts and surroundings of an average married man. This story meets course goal number seven as it enhances the students’ understanding of the value of holistic thinking in making informed judgments and in applying values as they become increasingly conscious of what is at stake if we fail to understand the relationship between human culture and the environment.…
