Bread In Ancient Egypt

In ancient Egypt the two main staples of the diet were bread and beer. This was true for the priests and the labors. However the quality most likely would differ greatly between the two. The most common grain was emmer or farro. With this grain they would make breads, porridge, and beer bread. The ancient Egyptians also included protein in their diet. Some of the few examples would be hippos, gazelles, cranes, and other small species. They often preserved fish with salt to dry them out. In fact, this was only a job the temple officials would do. Many wild vegetables were available to them such as, celery, papyrus stalks, and onions. To sustain their sweet tooth the Egyptians consume honey, dried fruits, raisins, and dates.
