A violating a patient confidentiality is a form of betrayal. There are number consequences of a breach of confidentiality. It can lead a patient taking a legal action of breaching confidentiality information. An advocate helps to make a complaint. A health practitioner could be sued for carelessness, breach of confidentiality or privacy and the defamation. An example, if it was a nurse they could face a discipline proceeding from the nursing licensing body. Also, if the patient believes that their doctor has incorrectly breached confidentiality they are able to follow their grievance in a several of ways. If the individual is going to harm themselves or if the individual has an intention of harming another person and lastly if an individual plan or have involved themselves in a criminal offence. If the situations like this occur it is significant that the information should be reported to the responsible individual who deals with the situation better by taking a correct action in order to reduce a harm. A confidentiality can be easily broken for example when an individual is talking with their friends and colleague. An example could be a health practitioner talking to the colleague about the patients by calling out their name. Another example could be when a health practitioner mention, “Did you know Tom said this.” A health practitioner broke confidentially as by giving out the name.
