Brazilian Free tailed bats or (Tadarida brasiliensis), are common household bats that usually reside in the Sothern parts of the United States, Central America, and Mexico (TPW). These bats are also very abundant in Texas, typically found in Central, and East Texas. Moths, beetles, flying ants, and June bugs are their sole source of food. It is estimated that house bats eat 6,000 to 18,000 metric tons of insects annually in Texas. In the winter months, Brazilian free tailed bats migrate to places like Mexico, Central and South America (TPW). Yet, in East Texas these bats are non-migratory. These bats tend to roost in buildings, which are well thermally ventilated. Hence, this may be why the species roost throughout the seasons in East Texas.
