Our family values is a combination of my two ethnic backgrounds. My dad highly values taking pride in everything you do or in his words, “If you do it, do it good!” I used to sarcastically roll my eyes at my dad’s so called catchphrase, but I believe that ingraining such a strong moral into my mentality has helped me become a better student, a better athlete and a better person. Everything my parents encourage my brother and I to do in and out of our house is to help us become better people for the future. One of our yearly traditions can be simply put as “a get together.” Since all of my mom’s family is in South America, my dad, my mom, my brother and I spent the holidays with the Kitabayashi and the Mito families, which are obviously of my dad’s Japanese heritage. The largest get togethers are on the more important holidays like, Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years. We all gather at the designated house for a whole lot of food, memories and fun. Getting together puts our family in sync.
