The novel, The Breadwinner, by Deborah Ellis, is about a girl named Parvana who lives in Kabul, Afghanistan. Once her dad is arrested and taken to prison, she has to provide for her family by selling goods and buying food. Throughout the novel, Parvana shows great bravery. One example of this is when she goes to the prison to try and free her dad. Although women and girls are not allowed outside, she still goes out and gets beaten as a result. As second example of this is when Parvana and her friend are digging up bones in the graveyard. Although they really scared they are brave enough to dig up the bones to support their families.
