Will went to war to deal with his emotions about the marriage of of his childhood sweetheart and Sid Archer. Murray later followed his older brother to the war because of the pain he was caused from his brother leaving and the death of his dad in a fir and also Sid archer insinuating that theere uncle jack had been a coward in WW1.

One thing in the book ‘Break of Day’ Tony Palmer focuses on is family. And example of this is when Murray hit his brother because the thought it was Sid Archer (pg 61) and he was going to hit Sid becase he called his uncle Jack a coward. Everyone knew not to trust Sid but Murray couldnt help but wonderwhat her meant by what he had said. In the end it was all okay and it shows us that not everything people say is true and that if something is said about your family by somebody else you probably shouldnt beleive it.

Bravery is a big thing both inside and outside of war. Murray shoes us that by having the courage to go to war and he also shows us that when he has to deal with all kinds of things at home like his dads death and when his childhood sweetheaqrt gets married to Sid.On pg 37 Murrays father loaded a rifle and held it out to him. All Muarray did was bow his head and look at his feet. He had shown no bravery at all, only cowardness. He let his older brother Will shoot their dog Paddy. Neither of them could speak “He had demanded courage and all i’d had to offer was weakness” Murray had said. He may not have shown bravery then but he did show bravery when he went to war to fight off the Japanese. Sometimes people can start off as cowards but they can learn to be

An example of Katniss showing bravery in the movie The Hunger Games is when she volunteers as tribute for her sister. In the movie it states “I volunteer as tribute”.…

Many people choose to side with whatever most people are siding with, often because they are scared to do it alone or draw attention. As shown in both “In the Silence” by Peggy S. Curry and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, characters are brave because they stand up for both themselves and what they believe in, even when standing alone. First, in “In the Silence”, Jimmy takes a stand, talking back to Angus Duncan.…

Courage, Cowardice, and Masculinity at War Usually when people associate war to cowardness, courage, or masculinity, they think that going to war is courageous and manly and not going to war is being a coward. Tim O’Brien explains his own thoughts on this in his collection of short stories, The Things They Carried. His thoughts on what is cowardly and what is courageous are new and worth looking into. He proposes that someone could be both courageous and cowardly depending on how you think of the situation, like him going to war. Also that masculinity in war isn 't just normally masculine men being courageous on their own, but a response to the fear soldiers are overwhelmed with while at war.…
