This legal drug is used by the government to control people from speaking freely and thinking for themselves. The government wants the World State to seem happier and more peaceful than what it really is. In the Real World, soma is compared to alcohol or weed, in way it helps people forget the pain and emotions they feel. Soma is used in the World State as many drugs are used in the real world, but soma is seen as a normal and health drug, while drugs in our world are dangerous and illegal.
