Through the imagination and creativity of the author Aldous Huxley one is exposed to a controlled society hundreds of years into the future. A world comprised of mind controlling stimulants and impressive technological advancements involving the creation of humans surrounds this futures civilization. Although the author had developed this world multiple decades ago, many of his implied predictions to the future are surprisingly accurate in today’s world. In Aldous Huxley’s novel Brave New World he exposes the reader to a futuristic society both distinct and similar to today’s modern world; this seen through the use of mind controlling stimulants and the creation of humans.

In multiple states and provinces in today’s world, mind controlling stimulants are illegal for multiple reasons; one being the harmful effects they cause to one's health. These stimulants strongly affect one’s mental state and could lead the individual into a fatal accidents. As a result, multiple governments officials strongly discourage the use and distribution of mind controlling stimulants. Clearly in order to eliminate fatal accidents triggered by the use of drugs, multiple U.S states have decided to ban these dangerous stimulants. The article, “Why Are Drugs Illegal,” proclaims, “In the United States there are many different drugs such as cocaine, heroine, crack, ice and marijuana, which are all illegal. They are illegal as they are addictive, mind-devastating and sometimes can be lethal… They are dangerous to our health. Ecstasy causes lung cancer and it is and it is scientifically proven that it damages our brain and it is fatal.” Evidently, in today’s world drugs are strongly discouraged because of the dangers they impose to society. Today’s world is cautious of the “damages” and “fatal” consequences the use of drugs can lead to. However, unlike today’s society, Brave New World’s society is encouraged to consume large quantities of drugs each day. Soma is publicly offered and distributed to all caste members continuously throughout the day. Clearly, in Brave New World government officials nor caste members concern themselves with the dangers they expose themselves to. In the novel Huxley explains how Linda’s return to England from the savage reservation involves her over dosing on soma after the doctor clearly mentions she will die within a month if she decides to take a soma holiday. Although Linda has no concern for her health, John on the other hand questions the doctors cruel reasonings for allowing her to die this way.
