The World State views love as something that is a waste of time. Their philosophy is that everyone belongs to everyone else; meaning that men and women alike should be with more than one person, they should not fall in love with a single individual and then stay with only them. During the book, Lenina questions on why she has become so attached to just one man, causing her friend Fanny to tell her that she should go out with other men before someone questions what she is doing.
