Another focus of this movie is the development of self-identity for young Aboriginal people living in the modern Australia. There are varied ways that people can build connection with their cultural background, for example through language, dance or music. For Miranda, her personal approach to enhance her understanding of Aboriginal culture is acting, through which she is allowed to make a deeper communication with inner-self and indigenous culture although she barely has a culture before hand.
There are varied ways for young indigenous people to build their connections with their own Aboriginal cultural background and exam their relationship with the world. It conveys the diversity of cultures on earth and emphasizes the precious value of every single one of them. The idea of 'land' may be referred to mathematical concepts of time, location and interrelationship from aspects of measurement and geometry. Using Aboriginal people's idea may help students to re-view their own understanding of these contents and reflective to their own cultural and social background. It could make it easier for students to develop a deeper, spiritual connection with Aboriginal people through this simple idea and foster their understanding about mathematical contents at the same time.
Using this resource in a math classroom could be a good inspiration for students to think about the issue of culture diversity. Teachers could promote it by setting a group discussion so that students from different cultural background could sit together to share their different understandings of one particular content. However, it also need to be reminded that some ideas may not be accepted and absorbed by every student in class in a short period of time due to the great diversity of them.
