The title of the play Bravely Fought the Queen has been taken from the poem “khoob ladi mardani woh toh Jhansi waali rani thi”, in which the courage and bravery of Jhansi raani has been attributed as manly by the poet. Thus, just like the queen, both Alka and Dolly are fighting their own battles within their homes and relationships. Through this story, Dhattani focuses on women’s longing for love and freedom and their struggle that they undergo in the play.
