Carr Carrot in “To Find Courage” follows the path of the hero in “The Hero’s Journey”. In “To Find Courage”, there was a banquet at Goodfood Academy and Carr decided to go and find courage to ask her crush out. In “The Hero’s Journey”, it quotes in the stage “The Call to Adventure”, “Usually there is a discovery, some event, or some danger that starts them on the heoic path. ” Carr wanted courage and found out about ‘Queen of Courage’ and went on a journey to gain courage. Another example that shows that Carr is a hero is when she faces a lot of trials that are hard for her to overcome.…
The last step of the hero's journey is the Return. The Return is when the hero is able to come back to the old world with his accomplishments. Sometimes the hero may feel content in the new world and refuse to return to the old world. In order for the hero to fulfill their destiny and become the leader they need to return to their old world. An example of a refusal is when Jack fights against the cops and refuses to turn himself in and go to jail.…
The movie I have chosen is the Disney Pixar film ‘Cars’ directed by John Lasseter. The class film that we have been assigned is the Disney film ‘UP’ directed by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson. The hero’s journey is displayed in both of these films by following the stages which include the Status Quo, Call To Adventure, Assistance, Departure, Trials, Approach, Crisis, Treasure, Result, Return, New Life and Resolution . These stages are demonstrated by these chosen techniques including sound effects, music and camera angles.…
I had been trying my hardest to win the end of the years basketball game. Before the game we were warming up, getting ready for the game. By watching the JV team play the other team I realized what I should and shouldn't do. So when the JV team was at halftime I went out to the bathroom, and on my way back I was thinking of the mistakes they had done. I was correcting their mistakes so I wouldn’t doing the mistakes they had done.…
I felt that each video was helpful in its' own way. Personally, the 'What Makes A Hero' video was the most helpful/informative video for me. Basically, it explained the common Hero's journey archetype which takes place in many stories. Essentially, the hero in a story is the archetypal predecessor of all humankind in general. The modern day hero is a culmination our ancestors' experiences over many generations.…
Hero’s Journey Narrative He handed me a blue necklace before he perished into the burning fires of the precious mansion he held so dear to him. He just laid there, watching his valuables burn to ashes and follow the path of the outside wind. His last words were, “Look in the cupboard, everything is there for you.” He said it with such seriousness, he was accepting his death and that is what pained me the most. I quickly ran after him, but he pushed me away.…
Jumping the Hurdle Most people tend to think that they behave differently than the characters that are portrayed in books, magazines, and movies. However, most of them imitate the characters behavior, whether it is the way they overcome a challenge, or deal with an issue. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, Richard Connell tells of Sanger Rainsford, a hunter, who must overcome an obstacle using his wits, logic, and hunting skills to outsmart General Zaroff at his own game; hunting.…
Grade 8, Unit 1, EA 1: Writing a Hero's Journey Narrative Sustainably Adam was just your regular 15 year old boy. But today something rustled in the back of his mind that reminded him innocence is not forever. It took but half of the day for troubling news to reach him of his sister’s death, and the implications that came with that. But so much more was on the horizon. Suddenly Adam’s world felt more suffocating than anything else, even though attached to his mouth was a perfectly functioning oxygen generator.…
Every hero goes through a journey cycle, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Katniss Everdeen, et cetera et cetera. Each of these heroes’ journey cycle has an effect on the theme of their respective stories as well as helping to develop their plots. James Dashner’s novel, The Maze Runner, helps express this statement as Dashner utilizes the hero’s journey in order to introduce and develop the theme of his novel, while employing the hero’s journey in a way that helps form his plot in an intriguing way. James Dashner makes use of the hero’s journey cycle in his novel, “The Maze Runner”, to form key plot components including the exposition, the climax, and the resolution. In “The Maze Runner”, Dashner uses the departure stage of a hero’s journey cycle to create the exposition for his novel, starting by allowing readers to obtain the setting, the protagonist, and the internal conflict of the protagonist in his novel through the “beginning of the adventure”, a vital step in the departure stage of a hero’s journey cycle (Dashner Pgs. 1-3).…
Violence in violent video games had remained to be a major concern in society. In addition to the controversy of VVGs, a new subject emerged when gender activists began to enter the discussion and industry. While studies of videogames using sociological and gender theories had existed before, these issues had been highlighted by many organizations in most recent years. One of the more prominent activists is Anita Sarkeesian. She is a Canadian-American feminist (owner of the YouTube channel "Feminist Frequency") who analyzes the gender tropes (more specifically the portrayal of women) in videogames through her video series Tropes vs. Women in Video Games.…
One thing I try not to forget is that no matter how nice the Miners are to me, they’re not my friends. Not even Gator who I treat like a younger brother. Their allegiance is totally and completely to Kane. If he decided he wanted me gone I was gone, no questions asked. Knowledge like that can mess with your mind if you let it.…
About 2500 years ago, the earliest Greek authors began writing myths about extraordinary heroes that mostly all followed a similar cycle, now known as “The Hero Journey Cycle.” In the modern day and age, authors continue using this cycle as a base for their stories, therefore heroes created now, during the 2000’s have a myriad of similarities with heroes originating from B.C. times. Hence the evident resemblances in the plot of Hercules, a hero from centuries ago, and Ewan Mao, a present-day hero from the story, A Hero at the End of the World written by Erin Claiborne. The two champions were raised to be valiant, making their ordinary beginnings both alike, and superior. Furthermore, Hercules and Ewan are called to adventure by an accident…

A hero’s journey is a commonly used plot in writing and Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is one of those because of many reasons: Ender is an unusual child and is treated different by everyone. Ender gets an introduction to his journey by his mentor, he goes through trials, overcomes them, then he has the great ordeal that he has to face. Ender was selected as the hero because of the main reason of being a third. He is meant to be the perfect combination of his brother, Peter, and his sister Valentine. They are bred to become the world's next human fleet commander.…
A world filled with fantasies and pleasure that the real world can’t give you. Jane is an incredible person she creates her own video games and she has written many of her own books. She is a world-renowned designer of an alternate reality, she believes that “game designers are on a humanitarian mission — and her #1 goal in life is to see a game developer win a Nobel Peace Prize” (McGonigal pg.1). For example, the author Jane McGonigal, wrote “Be a Gamer, Save the World,” published on January 22, 2011, in the Wall Street Journal, and she argues that we all think that playing video games is a way to escape reality, but gamers could change the world. Jane McGonigal effectively uses statistics and facts, and she successfully uses ethos and logos…
