Born in Portland, Oregon in 1938 as a hat maker, Columbia Sportswear has been outfitting adventures for generations. Led by the mother-and-son of Gert and Tim Boyle, Columbia remains a family-run business, but one with a global reach as products are sold in approximately 100 countries. For many years, Gert Boyle was portrayed in the company’s advertising as “One Tough Mother,” defining the company for many people.
