Led by the mother-and-son of Gert and Tim Boyle, Columbia remains a family-run business, but one with a global reach as products are sold in approximately 100 countries. For many years, Gert Boyle was portrayed in the company’s advertising as “One Tough Mother,” defining the company for many people. In fact, “the current ‘tested tough’ campaign borrows from the original and builds on the idea for today’s outdoor adventures by connecting the brands built-in toughness to the conditions where Columbia Sportswear products are developed and tested” (experticity).
