Introduction
The Remington Firearms started over 200 years ago, when the company started producing rifles. This quickly progressed into producing handguns, shotguns, ammunition, cleaning products, and many other firearm related products. (About Us, 2017)
Brand Positioning
The Remington Firearms company stands with using firearms for protection, for hunting, and for sporting events. (Remington Outdoor, n.d.) Any firearm owner fits into at least one of these categories. This will keep things clean and not create confusion by having a Miss tab under 12 other family brand companies. This keeps Remington the main provider of women modified firearms and related products. Another reason for keeping Miss Remington a private brand is simply because the founder of Remington was Eliphalet, a male and adding a Miss tab separates the genders clearly.
Brand Development
Miss Remington will be a brand extension. The Remington company has been successful for over 200 years and adding a section to cater to half of the population is going to help increase sales. While women already shop on Remington’s website, adding a new tab will draw more people to see what Remington has accomplished next. The main target is women, but this will also draw men into the Miss tab. This is because he will see an opportunity to introduce his woman in his life to firearms specifically for her. The new addition of the brand will be keep the same colors, font, and style of the rest of the website. This will keep women from getting special treatment when it isn’t wanted or needed. Women don’t need special treatment when it comes to firearms but not every woman can shoot the same guns as a man.
Within the new Miss Remington tab, there will be the same products as any other tab on the website, just with slight modifications. There will be an option of adding Miss to the label but if the customer doesn’t want it, the original brand stamp will be available. This is so women who buy the products will not be singled out and mocked for having a modified firearm.
