In Branagh’s version of Hamlet the scene took place in a modernized castle, the costumes weren’t typical medieval dress instead they were very common wealthy outfits. Even the so called “maids,” like Ophelia were dressed nicely; this allows the audience to focus more on the obvious storyline rather than the different social classes. This was a very effective way of presenting ‘Hamlet’ because instead of looking at the controversy in Ophelia and Hamlets relationship I looked at the overall plot that was occurring. In Branagh’s version of Hamlet the props and costumes were used to symbolize certain properties in the scene, for instance in the introduction the Queen was wearing a white dress to represent her “pureness;” this enhances the atmosphere…
To Be or Not To Be: A Tragedy Hamlet is a tragedy which primarily focuses on Hamlet’s feelings on his father’s death and his attempt to avenge the death. Part of this tragedy involves Hamlet’s relationship with Ophelia, who gains attention only because of her tragic circumstances. One can imagine Hamlet’s story without Ophelia, but Ophelia has no story without Hamlet, which demonstrates the powerlessness of women in the play. In William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,’ Ophelia’s life seems tragic, but for her death to truly be tragic, she had to realize her powerlessness without the men in her life. Ophelia does not have many options as a woman in a patriarchal society, and Helena Bonham Carter’s juxtaposition of Ophelia’s childlike nature with the…
In Hamlet, Act IV, Scene 7, Shakespeare portrays Ophelia’s death as a metaphor of corruption through diction and literary techniques. Firstly, Ophelia’s flower crown is an extended metaphor for the royal crown. Shakespeare uses the decaying motif with this metaphor to show the king’s corruption. The maids call one of the flowers making up the crown “dead men’s fingers” (195). After this line, “weeds/weedy” and “coronet/trophies” take place of flowery words such as “fantastic garlands” (196-198).…
With much concern and enchantment for Hamlet’s life, the audience often forget about the “fair Ophelia”. Furthermore, the audience pay little attention to Ophelia’s pain and grief, which she suffers and deals with alone.…
The Hamlet who is talking to Ophelia is not the same Hamlet that she fell in love with, he had been hurt by her father who had killed his father. That changed him immensely which changed his feelings for her. It saddens the audience to see that Ophelia continues to love Hamlet despite his mistreatment of her. Ophelia’s tragedy continues, as she never gets to hear for herself Hamlet’s true feelings. His meeting with Ophelia immediately follows his “to be or not to be” monologue, which was about Hamlet’s suicidal thoughts.…
Throughout history, Shakespeare’s work has been used as inspiration for various artists. Artists have created their own interpretation of Shakespeare plays which have resulted in many creative works. Unfortunately, in the 1600’s these quizzes weren’t available to Laertes, a character in Shakespeare 's play Hamlet. Laertes would have left the computer program puzzled because of his contradictory actions. The once wise and compassionate Laertes, became hasty and revengeful at the discovery of his father’s homicide.…

Ophelia is not one of the major characters in Hamlet. She only appears five of the 20 scenes in Hamlet, however “She is linked forever, for centuries, to the figure of Hamlet” (Lacan. p.20). Ophelia represents the repressed females of her era. As one of two females in the male dominated play, her life was controlled by the men around her including Hamlet, Polonius, and Laertes. She did not have a say in her life and was limited in opportunities.…

Amanda Parks ENGL 102 Professor Kambic 2 November 2017 Hamlet-BBC Production 1. They looked at dozen different kinds of spaces around London. They wanted to find an environment which wouldn’t call attention to itself which wouldn’t seem like that we were all on location that would provide for the play what we described as vivid neutrality. We looked at a number of disused factories, we looked at a couple of big sellers, we looked at an old school, and wed then went to this place in Mill Hill called San Joseph’s college which being a seminary for a catholic missionaries, we wanted a location which was theatrical, we need a space that 23 people would be able to populate and it still look costly. As soon as Greg walked in to the main place it…

In William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Shakespeare leaves many open ended thoughts and unanswered questions. One of the major wavering controversies is whether Hamlet, the heir to the throne, is in fact crazy or as he claims, putting “an antic disposition on” (Ham. 1.5.190-191). Even though many state he is truly mad, there are multiple evidential facts proving Hamlet’s honesty. Informational pieces to explain his true sanity include, why Hamlet would feign madness, admitting his sanity, and only acting insane around certain characters.…
