Brake: A Narrative Fiction

It had been just about three months since the walls first went up. The government thought that they would contain the virus, and keep those who were infected trapped inside and calm, but it only did the opposite. The infected didn't stay calm, they got angry, and the angrier they became, the stronger they became (or at least those who survived the infection). The infection seemed to affect everyone differently. Sometimes it would leave them dead in a matter of days, but sometimes, sometimes it would leave its victims different than they were before. Different in a way that made people both in and outside of the wall scared. Drake rolled over with a grunt, no matter how long he slept, it never seemed like enough to make him any less tired.
“What do you mean they dropped in food?” Drake said, trying to stay awake, “They finally decided to feed the inhabitants of their little zoo?”
Jack was one of Drake’s oldest friends, and the only one who would go anywhere near him since he survived the infection.

There was even a guy with a hockey mask and a weed whacker who looked about ready to take someone’s head off. Only when Drake landed did people start to back away from him. They had all seen what happened to people who survived, and even if the PCU has been trying their hardest to lock all if them up, they all knew what people like Drake could, and would do to people who got in their way. They all backed away from him, opening a clear path to where the food would drop.
“Who let you out of your cage you animal!”
Drake scanned through the crowd, but he couldn't tell who had shouted the insult. The air turned tense. The civilians started looking around nervously. They seemed to be wondering whether or not to run before someone angered the man who flew here shooting flames out of his hands.
“Look,” Drake held up his hands in front of him, trying to show that he came in peace. “I don't want to have to hurt anyone. I just want to get some food for me and my

Despite its ornate appearance, it was classified as an intra-system barge, and they could move, not as fast as an inter-system cruiser but they could still move. Its owner was the Royal Duchess of Spine, Kaitlin Caitlin Adderlink; it was chartered out of the Broxun system; and it could easily carry 50 people, in luxury. At the moment there were only three people aboard.…
