Dr. Laurence Steinberg describes the idea of developmental plasticity in the book “Age of Opportunity”. Steinberg (Chapter 2, 2014) describes how many important events occur during these years and those experiences get into a person’s brain and mold who they are. There is an old saying in the Hispanic culture that translated into English says, tell me who is around you and I will tell you who you are. It is clear that each individual is a product of their environment and the people who surround them. Youth usually hang out with other youth. Majority of those young people become influenced by pop culture and the messages they portray. Since adolescents are very vulnerable and naïve during this time because of their brain development, they are more likely to adapt to their environment.
