Some mental illnesses are depression, bipolar disorder, various eating disorders, and addictive behaviors.
The brain is split into different sections, and they are the frontal lobe, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, amygdala and the hippocampus, these are not all of the sections, but these are ones that are affected by mental illness. The hippocampus is in charge of emotions, and a chemical called dopamine exists within the brain, and it is in control of how happy or sad you are.
The frontal lobe is in charge of your emotions, impulses, and it also controls your behavior. Your hypothalamus plays a huge role in what mood we are feeling. When the pituitary gland is injured you feel depressed, and a wave of fatigue washes over you. Amygdala recognizes when we are in danger or scared of something.
