Native Americans have endured disease, colonization, and relocation from their homes. Much of their culture was drastically changed due to mission efforts and government intervention which led to massive acculturation. However, to claim that their culture was buried with their ancestors is a rather ignorant accusation. In other words, it was transformed to fit the view of modern society, but remaining in touch with their roots. To better understand this transformation, I have focused to analyze a painting by Oscar Howe (Native American) titled Rider which creates a unique blend of Native American and Western design.…
The article is a critical synopgterop30is to the painter Peter Paul Ruben from author Lisa Rosenthal. She mentions few main art pieces which done by Ruben such as The Hero Crowned by Victory and Drunken Hercules. The author generally talks about Ruben’s art in the first few paragraphs and it shows that his works are popular among his many sponsors. And also, the author uses some examples from Ruben’s art works to show the abstract characteristic male and female figures in particular causes. Moreover, she discusses about masculinity and femininity by suing those examples.…
Kerry James Marshal arts made him a preeminent American Artist. He has received a MacArthur fellowship. Ordinary is extra ordinary in his arts. He usually presents issues about the absent black figure in the tradition of Western art in his art works. Looking at sculptures and paintings in person or in a museum rather than looking at them on a flat screen can drastically change the way you take in the artwork in many different ways. One good example is the Ladder for Booker T. Washington by Martin Puryear, which, in person, was vastly larger than I expected. When looking at an artwork in the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, you get to observe details and witness different focal points that you would most likely miss looking at a computer. In Mart Puryear’s artwork, size, focal point, and surroundings can be wildly miscommunicated through a photograph. Size is a very important aspect in Ladder for Booker T. Washington, which is why I was astonished on how large the artwork was in person, compared to images that I’ve seen online.…
Have you ever thought about an NFL that never applied discipline? Tom Brady was allegedly deflating footballs in the 2014-2015 AFC Championship against the Indianapolis Colts, but was never punished. Although it is not fully proven, there is plenty of evidence that Tom Brady has violated the integrity of the game multiple times, therefore, Tom Brady should be harshly punished. The NFL and people everywhere have been way too easy on Tom Brady.…
I have chosen an art from the Realism and Romantic period for my project and will compare paintings by Jean-François Millet title The Gleaners and Eugène Delacroix title The Natchez. These two pictures have similar landscapes but hides the hardship and suffering whice have been shewed from the foreground of the paintings. Judging from the pictures The Gleaner and The Natchez, it is fair to say that “Picture say a thousand words” but hides the true story. The Gleaner painting was created in 1857 and the foreground of the photos shows three women in the field planting or harvesting crops and a beautiful landscape.…
Art, Action & Revival by David S. Fetcho is definitely one of the most thought out and thoughtful articles that I have read on the church and theatre in a long time. Fetcho begins his article with stating that “in many ways, the world of art and the Christian church are parallel universes. Both are concerned with the goal of becoming the point of social, psychological and spiritual integration for individuals and for society as a whole.” He’s quite right of course, and goes onto how the church and theatre ought to be married in the dramatic arts. He argues for the idea that the Christian artist, though a hundred years ago would have been crucified in the Church, is valiantly attempting to “reclaim lost ground--reclaiming territory that has…
In a world becoming increasingly saturated in media, the narratives of many different cultures are spreading throughout the world, and have a greater influence as people across the globe have access to these narratives. What happens, though, when the stories the world knows about a culture are told exclusively through the eyes of foreigners? Can an outsider really know enough about another culture to tell a complex, realistic narrative about the people they are trying to represent? Too often, the Western world has a disproportionate amount of influence over the narratives of other cultures, causing stories about cultures in Africa and the Eastern world to be overflowing with stereotypes, and offensive portrayals of the people who live there. Western story tellers have the tendency to inaccurately depict foreign cultures to make them fit their own simplified perception of them, and in doing so, further strengthen the power structures already at play in the world.…
Tom Brady’s Life in the NFL One of the big names of the National Football League, and the biggest face of the New England Patriots organization, is Tom Brady. Brady, whom is one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks is commonly recognized in a lot of different ways. The many mixed emotions about Brady oppose to his abilities on the field, are a concern to many, and amazing to the others. He is pointed at as the greatest quarterback of all time, a cheater, a cry baby, a celebrity, and a role model for many. In my eyes, he is hands down the greatest quarterback to ever touch a football field.…
Art, a painting on a wall might look meaningless but others consider art to be everything that surrounds them. Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein arts are extremely beautiful and well define which could change the way of how people thing about arts. The Mask, 1941 by artist Jackson Pollock, Landscape Steer, 1936-37 also by Jackson Pollock. The Drowning Girl , 1963 by Roy Lichtenstein. All three arts has a unique style, and amazing contrast.…
Throughout time people are observed becoming offended by the same types of images, for the same reasons. Although societal convention and practices might change throughout time and between locations, there are clear trends in what the populous finds to be offensive. Madame X was a painting by John Singer painted in 1884. This painting features and attractive woman in a long, sultry, dress. She is posed looking away, but also stepping forward.…
During the 21st century, individuals experienced racism. For example, authors have done an excellent job explaining racism. In fact, these authors are Bambara, Clark, and Chopin. According to research, racism is defined as "the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races" (Webster Dictionary). It is very important for everyone to understand the definition of racism, therefore, they are able to recognize and handle certain situations that may occur.…
1 INTRODUCTION Stefan Sagmeister is a world famous artist specializing in graphic design, typography, interactive and environmental art (Stefan Sagmeister 2017). He uses his art to confront many controversial topics and allows his audiences to take part in his art. We will be able to see Sagmeister's causes and design strategies by looking at a few key Marxist theories such as how two opposites cannot exist without one another and how we place ourselves in our social structure relative to others. We will do this by using his artworks Everybody always thinks that they are right, Obsessions make my life worse but my work better, and The happy show. 2 RESEARCH AND VISUAL ANALYSIS Firstly we have figure 1, Everybody always thinks that they are…
Banksy was known as king of graffiti, british artist, painter and as well as a filmmaker with a unknown identity (“The Story Behind Banksy”).
