We are disappointed by Lorin Bradbury’s explanation of why women stay in domestic violence relationships. A more important question is “Why do batterers hit and attempt to control a person whom their cultural norms tell them to love and cherish?” This would have been an opportunity for the religious leader, Pastor Bradbury, to apologize for the countless Christian pastors over the decades who have counseled women to stay with abusive partners. It would have been the opportunity for the psychologist, Dr. Bradbury, to acknowledge the complex situation a person faces when they love and need someone who becomes dysfunctional and abusive when they drink. It would have been an opportunity for the human being, Lorin Bradbury, to show more insight…

What will be humanity’s next step? This question has been addressed by every science fiction writer in the genre’s history. The predictions made by these writers in their fiction are usually based upon the current state of politics in the time in which they are writing, with some of the most famous works coming in the time following World War II at the height of the Cold War. Some write of a bright future, where all of the world’s nations have unified into one government and humans have become very technologically advanced and may be expanding out into the dark unknown of outer space. Others write of a more dystopian future complete with some form of nuclear holocaust or governmental corruption.…
The Prentice family was referred to the community-based agency to improve their mezzo family structure in order to avoid the removal of their children. Individual members of this unit utilize their personal form of maladaptive coping to respond to situational and contextual barriers based on their predisposing, precipitating and perpetuating factors. While the parents, Antonio and Terri, were never categorized as ideal parents, the death of their infant son has been the catalyst for an increase in detrimental behavior. Antonio and Terri’s behaviors have led to the neglectful treatment of their children, Jack, Jerrod, and DJ, which has caused their neighbors, family, and the son’s teacher to seek Child Protective Service (CPS) involvement.…
The robotic structure of the reading reveals that technology is the controller of the house. For example, almost every paragraph begins with a time frame, such as “Eight-one, tick-tock” or “Nine-fifteen, sang the clock” (Bradbury). The author emphasizes structure throughout the entirety of the passage to create organization. The organization further portrays the robotic-like nature of the household, because the arrangement of the reading is highly similar to a perfect schedule created by a robot. Moreover, the composition of time frames contributes to the theme of the replacement of humanity with machinery, because the household is performing everything on time, which is rare for humans to do, since humans make mistakes.…

Assignment 3 Kirstin Cain 9000736 1. How did you recognize the emotions you felt: through physiological stimuli, nonverbal behaviours, or cognitive processes? I recognized my emotions mainly through physiological stimuli, like my heart racing and my breathing increasing when experiencing anxiety or the tension in my neck when irritated or angry. There were times when it was necessary to control my nonverbal responses as to not send mixed messages during a visit, i.e. when I was amused by a cheeky response from a teenager when his parent was attempting to discipline him. After analyzing why I felt uncomfortable or discombobulated, I used cognitive processes to discern that I was feeling vulnerable while asking for help and out of sorts after missing my morning coffee.…
The Breakup Every relationship is a one of a kind. Couples communicate differently, they go through different stages, and they have different expectations of each other. Confirming and disconfirming messages are purposes of language that permit people definite acts of how we relate with others. Confirming messages are messages that offer a basic acknowledgement that the other person in an interaction is present, accepted and that the relationship is important. Disconfirming messages are the direct opposite of confirming messages. Disconfirming messages are when the other person in an interaction is disregarded or even ignored. I have often displayed these functions of language with my significant other.…
