Brad Stone Essay

Reporting is about always getting one hundred percent of the facts, but why do so many fall short? This could be due to a myriad of different possibilities, from being lazy, to just not caring and lying about all the info collected. Brad Stone, author of The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon, is the best investigative journalist there is. He makes sure to pursue every lead that presents itself. Stone knows how to get the facts from few and far between, to make sure not only, he has an article or book worth reading; but to make sure everyone knows everything he knows. Brad Stone through his craft, use of interviewing everyone and style, is able to leave no stone unturned, showing his determination to get the best story. The earliest peek we get into is how good Stone is in his craft, is the matter of which he convinces Bezos to let him write the book. He does so in a manner that resembles the process Amazon employees have to go through to present an idea: “write a proposed initiative the way someone outside of Amazon would hear about it” (Pg. 10 Stone). Doing this, Stone was able to learn about Bezos on a deeper level with. The best example of how devoted Stone really is on page 156. When Stone learned about the secret project Blue Origin, he couldn’t see inside the blacked out building, he decided he wouldn’t leave empty handed, taking out handfuls of the garbage from the can sitting on the street. The book that Stone wrote may have been about Bezos, but in the end without Stones rigorous technics, the book would have not been the same. It would not have had as much detail, substance and most of all
