This essay will consist of the ethical examination of two companies who were involved in some of the most prominent debacles in American history. The cases of the Enron scandal with many financial issues and mishaps from the management team and those in charge of business decisions. In addition, the ethical information on the British Petroleum (BP) oil spill. Both instances will be evaluated on the lack of ethical behavior, and how it can be improved or avoided in these situations.
Enron scandal

BP estimated there were 5,000 barrels of oil leaking per day in the month after the explosion, and the following month estimated 19,000 barrels of oil leaking per day. However, scientist estimated there were between 20,000 and 40,000 barrels of oil leaking per day (Grant, 2011, pp. 811). BP should have been more thorough in their estimations to be able to provide the general population a more accurate amount of spillage. The other issue is the amount of time it took for the oil well to be capped. Over 100 days of spillage and a tarnished reputation for a company. A ceo who gave false information in regards to the amount of oil that spilled. All of these issues could have been better absorbed and resolved.
Conclusion
After evaluating the lack of ethical leadership in regards to the cases of Enron and the BP oil spill, there are some resolutions that could have been made by management in order to help prevent or avoid the catastrophes that occurred. By complying with government and/or federal regulations, the organizations could have better helped their situations in acting responsibly and thinking of the impact their decisions would have on the number of people involved. The result would have hopefully been less calamitous than what ultimately
