A little dazed and confused I rolled over to grasp my phone. It was just out of reach, which I’m sure I did on purpose. I stretched my arm out as far as I could and nudged it with my finger tips. Thump! Still ringing it fell and slid under the bed. I crawled to the floor taking my blankets and pillow with me and finally shut the lousy noise off.
My eyes sprung open as I glanced at the time, “7:10? Crap Madelyn you're so going to be late for work!” I told myself as I snatched my oversized black shirt with the little orange roof that read, ‘Servpro’. Next I clutched an old pair of jeans, my black nike sneakers, my keys, and finally sprinted out the door.

With ‘Boys ‘Round Here’ by Blake Shelton blaring in the 90º room, I jumped high.
“I didn’t mean to frighten you,” he chuckled, “We just got three more calls in. Steve, you’re heading out in the field with me.¨ Sometimes I wished I could go into the field but Brent saw it as too much risk and work for a little 16 year old girl. ¨Madelyn, I don’t know when I’m going to be back. Can whatever you want to talk with me about wait till tomorrow? Or I can try to squeeze you in right now?”
My voice shook, “Ah, is it okay if we talk right now?” He must’ve noticed how anxious I got because his body language went from carefree to stand off like. I followed Brent back through to the break room, past the piranha tank, and behind Susan’s desk. Finally we entered his topsy-turvy, disorganized, messy, office.
“Take a seat!” he pointed to what looked to be a stack of papers, but hidden under the small mountain was a chair.
“I want to first start with how amazing this opportunity you’ve given me is,” I squeaked out with confidence, “But, I think that we both know this isn’t working well; and once school starts up, it won't.” He looked like he was dying to say something, I wished he would´ve. “So, I’m putting in my two weeks.” I blurted after a few awkward moments of silence.
