As one anonymous young woman explains,“the program has helped take responsibility off (my) shoulders and shown (me) that reaching out for help isn't a bad thing”(McCafferty). It shows that reaching for help does not weaken character or personality, it only strengthens the chance to improve. The author of “The House That Hope Built” agrees and explains that, “She said she has been given a chance to start over”(McCafferty). This chance is extremely important and can be the difference between success and bad decisions. BHGH ensures that youth has a moment to change their path in life for the better, Joy and honor fills the air at the Vision of Hope Awards Dinner where successful stories are presented by Boys Hope Girls Hope, which helps draw the attention and desire for younger kids to participate. One of the Wes Moores fate was sealed after he decided to continue being involved in the gang even after his older brother begged him to stay out of it. The chain of wrong decision has led him to a life behind bars and countless consequences. Later in his life he realizes that he had a chance to make the better choice in his life, however unfortunately he made the wrong one. As for the author, the other Wes Moore, the environment of military school has swept him off the path of destruction. Both Wes Moores believe that the living environment has an impact on the extremely important decisions in life. This is why an organization like BHGH provides a loving home for children which changes their lives forever. All successful stories start with a spark, which is sometimes lit by a helping hand. Boys Hope Girls Hope is just one successful organization that can inspire changing futures for the better. As Wes Moore points out, “I think the best we could do is to give our young people a chance to make the best decisions possible by providing them with information and the tools and the support they need”(Moore 179).
