Feminist Ethical Decision Making Model applied to Scenario Seven: Boys will be Boys (Or should that be “Men”?) The feminist ethical decision making (EDM) model described by Hill, Glaser and Harden (1995) details a seven step approach to systematically review an ethical dilemma. While reading the short story “Boys and Girls”, the big question I found myself asking near the end was why did the narrator open the gate to let Flora out? Flora was a bit of an aggressive horse and was dangerous to be around, so I found no reason why she would let her out on the loose. I then realized that Flora and the narrator were similar; both girls, both a bit wild and both wanted to be free. The obvious answer for the narrator letting Flora out is because she probably felt sympathy and wanted her to be free. Personally, I think that the reason the narrator let Flora out was because she saw herself in Flora, and by opening the gate to let Flora free, she was subconsciously letting herself free.…

A major theme that stood out is the problem regarding refugees/illegal immigrants (used interchangeably in the film), which was achieved through the usages of montage, misè-en-scene, and long take. In ¨Talking to Boys the Way We Talk to Girls¨ Andrew Reiner describes how the way parents treat and talk to their children based on gender affects the way men and women embrace their emotions in the future. Reiner claims that men are inherently forced to suppress their emotions starting at a young age, while women are more in touch with their emotions because parents were more accepting of girls expressing their feelings. Between physical affection and verbal affection, boys do not receive the same amount or type as girls do. This permanently affects the way that each gender interprets how expressing emotion is socially acceptable. Reiner uses examples of real life situations and proof from research to educate the audience of the root of this problem.…

Sex and the City mostly contains various amount of scenes of the women having sex and talking about sex like men. This demonstrates the double standard that men are able to sleep around and act so dominant without society disagreeing or judging, but if women do the same, they will immediately be considered as “dirty.” Therefore, the women throughout the show create a good visual to the audience on their different perspectives of sex, and make it pretty clear on their mindset that casual sex is acceptable. These women are viewed as independent and self-loved women who have such “normal” lives in the Big Apple. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda go through modern social issues such as sexuality and femininity, also while having many differences…

In the article Motivating Boys to Read: Inquiry, Modeling, and Choice Matter by Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey; Fisher and Frey argue “the difference is probably not due to ‘that pesky Y chromosome.’ Perhaps it is time to challenge the prevailing myth of boys and their disinterest in reading.” They studied 115 ninth graders but then narrowed it down to only 3.…
