It is a wonderful thing to teach the upcoming youth what it takes to be a good citizen. Now, what if the organization turns around and tells the volunteers that there rights do not apply? This is exactly what the BSA has done.
The Cause
The BSA has delineated in their publication Guide to Safe Scouting under Unauthorized and Restricted Activities that:
Except for (1) law enforcement officers required to carry firearms within their jurisdiction, and (2) Circumstances within the scope of the BSA hunting policy statement, firearms should not be in the possession of any person engaged in camping, hiking, backpacking, or other Scouting activity other than those specifically planned for target shooting under the supervision of a currently certified firearms instructor. (Among the purpose of this policy is to prohibit adult leaders from bringing firearms on BSA camping and hiking activities or to unit meetings.) (p.33)
This ban includes those that have undergone rigorous background checks for concealed carry. The question to ask is, “Is there a reason that adult leaders should have firearms?”

Is this motto fitting? The BSA teaches boys to be prepared until there eighteenth birthday. At this point if the youth wants to transfer over as an adult leader they cannot always be as prepared as they want or even need. During the research portion of this there were many forums that brought up this topic. There are many people that believe that this ban is unconstitutional, so why do people not ask more questions.
