Rucker Park Setup Reflection
Growing up in Harlem, it’s every kids dream to win the Rucker Park tournament held every summer. What’s so great about this court, people may ask. Well it’s where NBA and street legends like, Wilt Chamberlain, Dr. J, The Goat, and The Helicopter made their starts. Therefore, best friends, Mackey and J.R, want to participate in the tournament, after years of riding the bench. Little do they know on the day of the game, J.R. is fatally stabbed and Mackey feels responsible for the murder. Now he has to finish the game without his best friend with his killer watching.
Mackey grew up without a father. His father passed away when Mackey was too little to remember. So J.R.’s father, Stove, was like a second pops for him.
