This movie was exhausting. Watching it felt like watching, or even being involved in, a boxing match. It started off slow without out much drama, then out of nowhere two or three major things would happen that was like being hit by two or three jabs. Then, the drama would subside for a while, but, out of nowhere, two or three more unbelievable things would happen, and this pattern continued throughout the rest of the movie. It would take a special therapist with super human powers to successfully treat this family. However, assuming that it was possible, I would use Bowen Family therapy. I believe the members of the family I would treat would be grandma, the caretaker (highered by grandpa) and the three daughters (Karen, Ivy and Barbra), because they seemed to be at the core of the family. Moreover, the caretaker is the only one who is living with mom, and would serve as an outside perspective, so I think it would be beneficial if she was there. I think the daughters should be there too because there was so much tension between them and with them towards their mom. I would begin with an assessment session where I gathered information about the family, the relationship dynamics, and the history of the problem(s). During this session, I would also work on completing a genogram to eventually use as a visual aid for the family to see patterns, stresses, relationship dynamics, and other prevalent issues that are and have been present in the family. After forming a foundation of the family’s history and problem, I would construct therapeutic goals to work towards. For this family specifically, the primary goal would be improving the ways in which everyone communicates with one another. Moreover, I would work to help family members gain insight about unhealthy patterns that are present and have been for a long time. In working towards these goals, I would employ techniques such as process questions, which would hopefully help them gain insight about how they communicate with one another. In addition, I would use therapeutic triangles, because they are present on several occasions during this movie. Specifically, I would discuss how they form and the potential issues that can occur when they
