Each Welcome Week Leader did a phenomenal job at making myself and other incoming freshman excited about the activities offered and the beginning of our college adventures. For many years I have held Bison Pride and nothing in the past week gave me any reason to doubt my choice college. Along with never feeling disappointed, I was also pleasantly surprised. Throughout high school, we were told that college professors are out to fail their students and don’t truly care how we do in their classes. In reality, they want to provide each of us with a challenge and are very willing to assist those students who are ready to put in the time to…

In their articles, “Two Years Are Better Than Four” and “Are Too Many People Going to College?” Liz Addison and Charles Murray discuss how colleges now are much different than colleges in the past. The college experience has changed since people, such as Rick Perlstein, went to college. Even though the college experience is ever evolving, it can still be a very important part of someone’s life. Even if it is not at a “four-year brick-and-mortar residential college” (Murray 229) like many parents and high school faculty push students to go to right away.…

Although being open and outgoing can help communication growth, rudeness and unnecessary judgement can hinder one’s ability to socialize and express themselves.…

Life's a journey worth taking the unbeaten path. That is why, despite looking up to my loving parents and having the utmost respect for them, I have taken a different road than they did. Over the course of my first semester at the University of Iowa, I, like many of my classmates and friends, have changed. University is probably the biggest sweeping change that occurs to young adults of our age in America, willingly going away, sometimes hundred or thousands of miles away from your family to seek a higher education. It can be a stressful and hectic new step in life, but I especially think it will be a rewarding experience overall, not just because of the degree you get at the end of it, but because of the opportunity it can afford for many to really experience academic passion like never before in high school. This semester has taught me a lot about myself, both as a person and as a student, my abilities to work and think critically,…
