The Hillsborough Middle School Girls Lacrosse Team had an exceptional season, finishing with a strong record of 11-5. They managed to score a whopping 147 goals, and 19 out of the 22 players contributed to that miraculous number. Although the team suffered a tough loss during the semi-finals in a close game against Montgomery, they each blossomed as not only players but people. Lacrosse is a stick-and-ball game that Native Americans have played for hundreds of years. The name “lacrosse” comes from French settlers in the 1600s who called any game played with a curved stick and ball “crosse” in French. While many tribes have some version of this game, modern lacrosse is most similar to the game played in the the Northeast USA and Canada, mostly by the Iroquois Nation. Throughout my four years at Horn high school, I have noticed that many students at JHHS show an abundance of school spirit. For example, for every football game the student section decides what to be worn. I have always known that I wanted to serve in the justice system, but my interest in law school truly began in high school with experiences such as my involvement in Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a Big Sister, I learned that there are many children in the world that need an advocate to give them a voice within the system. My interest in a legal career was further piqued during my attendance at Sunflower Girls State where I was able to attend a real trial with the District Attorney and participate in mock trials. Justices make some of the most important decisions for the United States, and once appointed they serve for life, or until they step down. Unfortunately, there is no definite time when a justice’s “life term” will come to an end, and Justice Antonin Scalia’s suddenly ended earlier this year.
