Humanitarianism has always been a debated topic both in the field of literature and in the field of politics throughout history. As a matter of fact, some writers have used their works to reveal their own understandings toward humanitarianism. A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens in 1859, is one of the classics that reflects western bourgeois humanitarianism.
