It had been awhile since she had invited a stranger to chitchat with her. Perhaps she would do so, just for the sweets. Yes, she might do so just to get under the skin of those waiting to do business with her. It would make her feel good, as always, to know that she controled other people's time. Published in 1946, A Streetcar Named Desire reflects the cultural tensions that pervaded the nation after the horrors of World War II, when an idealistic and ambitious American nation attempted to prove its superiority and its power to the global community by attempting to - and succeeding in - squashing the threat of Nazi Germany. Millions of Americans lost their lives in an effort that left Germany powerless in the hands of America and the other Allied forces. When A Streetcar Named Desire came out, the country had just emerged from the war after battling through the Great Depression of the 1930's, and suddenly the national spotlight focused on the middle and lower classes as the true bearers of the heroic American spirit. Sexuality today is a bustling inner-city culture where different neighborhoods, though all residing within the same metropolitan, have their own sociological, complex characteristics. Sexuality is multifaceted and often times messy, confusing to even those who would seemingly be highly knowledgeable in its workings, as well as in gender and identity. However, we do have insight through experience and several origins of construction such as social regulation, economic and social organization, and cultures of resistance, just to name a few.
