Decent Essays
If we really want to save the environment then we should get rid of plastic water bottles! Why get rid of plastic water bottles? Well, because first of all, it is horrible for the environment, and because it is a big scam. We might as well buy electricity in a can for a lot more money. Because that is what plastic water bottles are doing.
Trashing the environment First of all it is horrible for the environment. According to “The Story of Bottled Water” it says, in one year just in the U.S we use enough oil and gas to make plastic water bottles to fill up 1,000,000 cars! Also in one year Americans buy enough plastic water bottles to stretch up from the Earth to the moon and back eight times! That is crazy. Just think that is only for plastic water bottles and it is just in the U.S. Also there are many more things that use oil and gas so we are going to run out of it sooner than later. To add on most people have access to water at their house and that does not take up oil. So why buy plastic water bottles? Now, some people say that, if you recycle them then they will get reused. Bottled water is a huge scam because we almost have free water compared to bottled water. According to “The Story of Bottled Water,” it bottled water costs $2,000 more than water you can get from your house. We might as well buy a $10,000 sandwich. Why do people buy bottled water then? Well the companies will put a mountain or nature on it to make you feel like you are drinking water from that. But not really, because it is mostly tap. For example, Fiji says that it is from Fiji but people did a test on it and Cleveland water had better quality than Fiji water and Fiji water costs way more than tap water. Also the companies tried to scare people saying don't drink tap water and stuff that would make them buy bottled water. But they should be saying don't drink bottled water because it is the same thing or worse than tap water and costs way

My initial thought was that bottled water is an overall better choice than tap water, but after reading all three articles, Tap water doesn't seem as bad as an option I initially thought it was. For one thing, tap water is significantly cheaper than bottled water (up to 1000 times more cheaper). When engaging in a dialogue about bottled water, it is vital to recognize both sides of the argument to generate progress and make concessions that identify its positive and negative effects. However, it is unquestionable that the negative effects of bottled water exceed its positive effects, because its negative effects on human health and the environment supersedes all the positive effects it has such as its convenience for consumers.
