The first and second tests for the presence of ammonia and Chloride did not show any measurable results in any of the samples. The third test, the 4 in 1 test showed the Fiji bottled water to have hard water as compared to the Dasani and tap water. Fiji water had the highest chlorine content, double that of tap water. Tap water and Dasani water had higher alkaline than the Fiji water. The tap water rated highest on the phosphate content test followed by Dasani with half as much phosphates followed by Fiji having the lowest phosphates. The iron test showed all three samples with small amounts of iron. Fiji water had the highest pH levels followed by tap water than Dasani bottled water.

Discussion:
My original hypothesis was very general and did not describe which types of contaminates would be higher, I simply stated the tap water would have higher contaminants than the bottled waters. I rejected my hypothesis of the tap water containing the most contaminants. Fiji water contained less Alkalinity, which if too low, can resist pH changes which indicate higher alkalinity minerals are present. Fiji chlorine levels were double that of tap water. Chlorine is used as a disinfectant to eliminate bacteria and odors. Mastroiann (2011) noted, “In water, the chlorine reacts to form hypochlorous acid and hypochlorites, and could potentially

Although bottled water appears to be healthy and taste good over tap water, it’s expensive. I prefer to drink my tap, filtered water. It tastes better, I like the way it feels on my skin, my clothes feel softer, my dishes do not have water spots, my vehicles are much easier to clean and I believe it’s much healthier for drinking and cooking based on the test results in this lab and therefore I would highly recommend a Rainsoft water softener home

People want to know which water is healthier, is it bottled water or tap water? Researchers have tried to prove one or the other is healthier. Even though bottled water is considered healthy that is false. Bottled water goes through so many processes just to be purified and made healthy. Many chemicals are added to the water so it can either look very clear or taste very pure.…

I paragraph 4 of source 2, it states that many people think that sink water tastes nasty, which I agree with them. Sink water is never always healthy there might be something called “led” and that is a deadly chemical. Water bottles taste the same as far as I know but sink water tastes weird sometimes. This is not in the article but this happened to me in real life, I’ve tasted sink water a few times in my life and I’m not joking but they all tasted different all of the times I’ve had it. Once it tasted eggy another time it tasted like copper and then it tasted like a swimming pool… Trust me it wasn’t the best thing…

My initial thought was that bottled water is an overall better choice than tap water, but after reading all three articles, Tap water doesn't seem as bad as an option I initially thought it was. For one thing, tap water is significantly cheaper than bottled water (up to 1000 times more cheaper). Another obvious reason people seem to forget about is that the bottled water affects the health of our planet. Document 3 states “Bottled water is an increasingly growing business, and with that comes a whole lot of environmental impact that can be avoided by a turn of the faucet, says Jenny Powers of the NRDC. While we struggle to cut down on our consumption of fossil fuels, bottled water increases them”.…

First of all unlike what Annie Leonard had stated, bottled water is, in fact, an extremely well regulated product that is proven to be strictly coordinated by the IBWA, making it also healthy for the society. In Annie’s script “The Story of Bottled Water,” she had once stated, “...In many ways bottled water is less regulated than tap.” Although she claimed that bottled water is less regulated than tap water, the fact still remain that bottled water is generally cleaner and more coordinated than tap as proven by IBWA, an association formed by hundreds of experts, in the statement, “Bottled water is a packaged food product regulated by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which requires bottled water to comply with bottled water-specific…

The two sides of the never ending battle between the pros and cons of bottled water and tap water takes a new victim with every statistic, but the fact of the matter is tap water takes the metaphorical cake in every instance. Not only does the regulation of tap water help the economy by making state sponsored jobs, and costing considerably less, but tap water is also better for the environment with no plastic bottles rotting away in landfills. The constant regulation of tap water also makes it better for your body. In all ways tap water is superior. “On average, 86% of plastic bottles end up in landfills” (Ellsbury).…

I found that the pond water in the Hammond Park ranked the highest with 432 ppm for the AA concentration and 440 for the EDTA concentration. The second highest hardness was the Shulze Hall tap water which had a concentration of 328 ppm for the AA concentration and 300 ppm for the EDTA concentration. The Aquafina water bottle was significantly softer than the first two samples. It had an AA concentration of 3.58 ppm and an EDTA value of 20.0 ppm. According to a scale measuring the severity of water hardness, both the pond water and tap water were considered very hard.…

In Part B of this experiment a few mishaps occurred: the pH paper was accidentally placed in the test tube in step ten, and more than the recommended water input was added to the test tube in step eleven. More water was added in step eleven because the solution was too cloudy. The results of Part B were interesting because it was expected that there could only be calcium or barium present in the solution, but both were confirmed present. A precipitate formed in both of the tubes that were needed to be used to confirm the presence of barium and calcium.…

It is vital to reduce contaminates and decrease the risk of microbes in drinking water. This process is accomplished through water disinfection. This procedure can be done though several methods; however, chlorine and chloramine are the most frequently used forms of chemical disinfection (Serrano, Silva, & Gallego, 2011). When this process is utilized, there is an increased risk in the release of unwanted by-products can cause severe health risk. The use of chemical disinfection methods, results in the creation of disinfection by-products through the interaction of the disinfectants with natural organic matter (NOM) (Bougeard, Goslan, Jefferson, Bruce, and Parsons, 2010).…
