They had made a plan that they would throw all of the tea off of the boat and into the harbor in order to protest about all of the unjust laws of taxation that the British have put on the Americans. They divided themselves into three groups (one group for each boat). As soon as they saw some loyalists around the harbor, the patriots started to throw the tea into the harbor. The amount of money thrown into the harbor was up to $18,000. Because of the Boston Tea Party, the harbor had to be shut down. The harbor started to reek, and when it stopped smelling, they still had the harbor shut down until all of the tea had been paid for. The party made many people mad, and so the government created the Intolerable Act. This act made many other acts start such as: the Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, the Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act. Many of the American Patriots responded to these acts in protest, and a few months later, some of those Patriots got together to make the First Continental Congress to petition in order to put an end to the Intolerable
