The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened on March 5, 1770 when British soldiers opened fire on civilians. The massacre, as dubbed by Samuel Adams, began when colonists of the rougher kind threw snow-covered rocks at British soldiers in front of the courthouse. At that point, the soldiers opened fire. Because they had been directly assaulted, the soldiers believed they had the right to retaliate against the colonists. After the order to fire, they fired into the crowd, killing Crispus Attucks, a slave who had run away and become a sailor, and four other colonists. Samuel Adams wrote propaganda about the “massacre.”
