The monument I would create is in Boston, Massachusetts, which is a historically rich city, but I would create a monument to one specific event named the Boston Massacre. This is a significant event in the history of United States, where British troops murdered some Americans after they formed a mob. This partly led up to the Revolutionary War where America fought
Britain. This monument would be made of dolomitic marble. It would contain a 20 x 20 replication of Paul Revere’s engraving of the Boston Massacre, and under it an inscription explaining the Boston Massacre.

My monument would be in the location of where the Boston Massacre was.

Presently, there is a circle of cobblestones where the Massacre took place, my monument would replace the existing one. My monument would be made of dolomitic marble. It would be made of dolomitic marble, a rock that forms when dolomite has heat and pressure added. This is because Boston often has inclement weather and dolomitic marble is the type of marble that can deal with bad weather the most easily. For example Boston has 137 days with precipitation per year and at least 3 inches of precipitation on average per month. Also dolomitic marble is an attractive stone so people would be drawn to see the monument. . Therefore the monument would have to be something that people see as nice to look at and able to resist the amount of bad weather that Boston gets. This is why I chose dolomitic marble as the rock that would be used to construct my monument to this event. People would want to see this monument because as

As said in source A: “The public monument speaks to a deep need for attachment that can be met only in a real place, where the imagined community actually materializes and the existence of the nation is confirmed in a simple but powerful way.” The site of the monument needs to be well thought out and planned so that people will be attracted to it.
