Boston Marathon Bombing Summary

April 15, 2013 was a surprise to approximately everyone in the U.S. No one would have imaging that on this day two bombs would go off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three spectators and injuring more than 200. Soon following the bombing President Barack Obama composed a press report assuring that those guilty will be seized and punished. On April 18th FBI special Agent Rick Deslauriers released photos and video of two individuals, with back packs. This release did not only help the investigation but also became a set-back in the investigation as the FBI reported huge numbers of calls of anyone that was carrying a back pack. That day launched an intensive manhunt for 19 year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaey and his 26 year old …show more content…
The brother did not end their crime spree at the bombing. That night the two brothers murdered an officer; as he set in his car, while they attempted to steal his service weapon. On April 19th Dzhokhar and Tamerlan manage to attain a hostage and drove him around obliging him to withdraw money from ATMs. The hostage managed to escape at a gas station and alerted police for the SUV they were driving. The hostage also told them how they could track them by using his phone that was left in the car. Moments later a gun battle took place between officers and the brothers. Tamerlan Tsarnaev was taking down as they packed his body full of bullets. With all the disturbance and confusion going on Dzhokhar got back into the stolen SUV and drove right over his brother. Tsarnaev later dies in the hospital. Dzhokhar who was injured from the earlier gun battle, abandons the SUV and fled on foot . Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick and the state police made the decision to report the shutdown of Boston, nearby schools, public transportation and business and advised people to stay inside their homes, as police conducted …show more content…
This investigation had more than 1,000 federal, state and local law enforcement working together. (Boston) The first responders were the initial response personnel. Once the blasts went off, they quickly responded to secure area. These personnel included emergency crews, hospitals personnel, and government agencies. Their job consisted of treating the injured victims , clearing the area and securing the crime scene. The Boston emergency medical services and other agencies worked to transport 200 plus casualties to local hospitals within 90 minutes of the two explosions. Newton Police Lieutenant Bruce Apotheker, did his part by pausing the race for many runners a quarter-mile before the finishing line. Within an hour and a half of the deadly attack, Milton Police Chief Richard Wells and ten of the department’s tactically trained officers, including a bomb-sniffing K9 unit, rushed to the crime scene. (Conti)The mutual aid facilitator Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council sent 100 specially trained officers from the various communities to aid Boston Police. This facilitator is formed by 43 police agencies in the area near Boston, Massachusetts. It pulled resources to provide SWAT, canine, hostage negotiation computer crimes, motorcycle and other units throughout the area.
