Boston Marathon Bombing Analysis

“There was no celebrating. I crossed the finish line and heard the bang. It’s taken a while to sink in. I’ll never understand how someone could do something like this.” (Various, “The Shoes We Wore”) It took only an instant for what should have been a moment of joy and hope to become a time of distress and chaos. People lost and hurt, lives shattered and bruised; the 2013 Boston marathon bombing transformed the runners and spectators, the people of Boston, and all the family and friends. The May 2013 issue of Boston magazine was only a few days out from publishing, and yet the team had to put away what they had and start from scratch. With an event on this scale, they understood the necessity to reach out and report upon the effects of this catastrophe. With limited time available, they took to gathering various personal stories and created an issue treasured by many for all the reasons they wish they wouldn’t have to. It shows how there will always be a part of Boston missing, a wound which can only be melded, not replaced or healed. Furthermore, the concept of the heart being formed of strictly negative space is a much stronger point than a positive concept.
However beyond this at the middle of the heart small text appears saying “We will finish the race”.
