Dr. Francis Henry Brown, a civil war surgeon, who traveled to Europe to study the pioneering specialized approach to treating children, founded Boston’s Children’s Hospital in 1869. When Brown returned to Boston Massachusetts he applied his findings opening a 20-bed facility at 9 Rutland Street in Boston's South End.

Present day Children's Medical Center and Subsidiaries owned by Boston Children's Hospital a non- profit organization is one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States. Ranking Number One on US News Health and World Report, the hospital has 395 beds offering over two hundred specialty services accommodating children from birth through twenty-one years of age. With approximately 25,000 inpatient admissions each year and their two hundred specialized clinical programs they schedule about 557,000 visits annually. …show more content…
