The Bosch Crash Data Retrieval System was used to conduct this analysis. “CDR” is an acronym for the Crash Data Retrieval. This system consists of a kit containing software, cables, and an interface module designed (and periodically upgraded) specifically to create an image of the data and translate the information stored in the Airbag Control Module (ACM). The kit is used in conjunction with a computer. The system will produce a report for each module imaged and a copy of each will be contained in the appendix of this report. “Algorithm Enable” (AE) is also commonly used. AE occurs when there is a force (impulse) detected by the module that is significant enough to cause the module to begin analysis of the force and to determine whether to deploy the airbag. Depending on the amount and duration of the force, the module may deploy the airbag. The time at which AE occurs is used as a reference (or zero) point for most time measurements. However, AE, is not necessarily the precise instant of the crash. Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM) is manufacturer specific for General Motors and is the same thing as …show more content…
The two types of events are a Non-Deployment Event and Deployment Event. Deployment Events cannot be overwritten or cleared by the SDM. The Chevrolet’s SDM recorded a Deployment and Non-Deployment Event. A copy of the Bosch report is in Appendix

In 2000, rollover crashes killed 9,873 occupants of passenger cars and light trucks, almost one-third of the total deaths of occupants of these types of vehicles. A rollover crash is far more likely to result in fatalities than are non-rollover crashes. In 2000, only 3 percent of all passenger vehicles involved in crashes were rollovers, but rollovers accounted for 20 percent of passengervehicles involved in fatal crashes. Controlling for vehicle type shows that within the passenger vehicle category, light trucks are more likely than passenger cars to be involved in rollover crashes and when rollovers occur, the proportions of fatal and injury only type crashes that involve rollovers are also higher among light trucks than passenger cars.…

Unfortunately, neglecting small damage is the worst thing you can do, because small cracks can easily grow into a much bigger one. These are some dangers of driving with a broken windshield.…

Engineering Design Case Study The Takata Airbag Recall Airbags are one of the most important safety equipment in almost all vehicles on the road today. All new cars sold in Australia today come with airbags as standard (NRMA, 2017). United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that airbags save the lives of at least 2500 people every year in the United States alone (Glassbrenner, 2002). People rely on airbags to save their lives if there is a crash, therefore it is crucial that airbags are engineered and manufactured to the highest possible standard.…

In 1987, Takata began to supply airbags to the rest of the world. While Takata may be one of the few manufacturers of airbags with fully integrated development, design, and manufacturing capabilities for airbag systems, its airbag segment may have seen better days. It is difficult for Takata to make a comeback after the whole airbag fiasco. Nevertheless, Takata’s R&D in airbags have produced a technology for sensing collision impact severity and performing all functions successfully to inflate the airbag within .005 seconds. To do this, they must have high-precision technology that ensures systems perform operations in time intervals of milliseconds (.0001 seconds).…
