As an example, the days of seeing a would-be terrorist hijacking a plane with explosives strapped around his torso are a thing of the past. However, it is now possible for liquid explosives in the amount that would fill a contact lens bottle, to potentially bring down a big passenger airliner (Hamilton, 2006). This led to the long standing ban by the Transportation Security Administration [TSA] to ban any containers of liquid in certain amounts. In regards to border security, even the United Nations points out that “effective border security is key to the effective implementation of counter-terrorism measures” (“Border Management..”, 2016). I don’t recall any recent terrorist events as a result of movement from Mexico into the United States, but that certainly isn’t to say it can’t or won’t happen.
