Every single day, the United States Border Patrol has to constantly keep an eye out for the smuggling of drugs, terrorists, and weapons at our Nations perimeter. Since violence has been known to travel alongside these things, agents have been working around the clock to keep American citizen’s safe. The Mission of the Border Patrol is to detect and prevent terrorists, weapons, drugs, and any other illegal smuggling from entering the border of the United States. The Border Patrol is especially responsible for patrolling nearly 6,000 miles of Canadian and Mexican borders. They also patrol around 2,000 miles of coastal waters surrounding the Florida and the island of Puerto Rico. Agents work around the clock on in all types of terrain and weather conditions such as blistering desserts, canyons, mountains and even windy seacoasts. Agents patrol the border in vehicles, boats, horses, on foot, motorcycles, aircraft, and so much more. An Agent’s typical day-to-day job is purely surveillance. They are also responsible for interpreting and following tracks, following up on leads of illegal entry, and maintaining traffic checkpoints. Border Patrol is designed to catch criminals, refugees, and to avoid wars between countries. The border between Mexico and America is designed to stop the smuggling of weapons and drugs from one country to the other. Due to drug cartels in Mexico, it’s getting harder and harder to keep drugs from being smuggled across the American Border. Perhaps one of the biggest issues with Border Control is determining how effective it is. Despite having around the clock surveillance of the area, illegal aliens still enter the United States of America without documentation every day. The Border patrol is supposed to keep this from happening, but some would say it’s just slowing down the process. Most of the Mexican people are trying to get into America to escape from the horrors of terrorists and cartels in their own country. These people are looking for sanctuary in a country that will protect them, and deporting them back into their own country will put them in harm’s way. However, some would argue that The Border Patrol is beneficial in terminating drug smuggling and other illegal acts. Also, if we let every person freely walk across our border, our nation would suffer not only with the growth of violence, but our country would also suffer financially.
