The introduction to the movie and book are very different in the aspect that the book shows the world through Katniss’s perspective only so you get the idea of her waking up and comforting her sister, Prim, on the morning of the reaping before going into the woods to hunt. In the movie, the introduction is an interview between Caesar Flickerman and Seneca Crane on what he thought about that year’s games and tributes. This introduction not only gives a multi perspective outlook but also a foreshadowing of sorts. Another example can be seen in the representation of Prim’s cat.

In the movie Katniss lifts the wire with her arm and slides through the fence very easily. Katniss’s friend Madge and her family are not mentioned in the movie, leaving out important information and a minor plot hole in the meaning behind Katniss’s mockingjay pin.
In the movie Madge and her family are not incorporated into the story at all compared to the book where Madge and Katniss are friends and Madge’s father, Mayor Undersee, one of Katniss’s and Gale’s significant income customers, which has a particular fondness for strawberries.
One other significant difference between the two, pertaining to Madge’s involvement is how Katniss gets her mockingjay pin. In the movie Katniss gets the pin from Greasy Sae in the Hob and gives it to Prim as a symbol as protection before the reaping and is exchanged after Katniss volunteers as Prim’s tribute during the family visits. While in the book Madge does not give Katniss the pin until after the reaping and is given as a symbol of their friendship. Another distinguishable difference is how the reaping system
