The Debut (2000) was a film presenting the positive aspects of the Filipino culture, using the real problems and relatable issues that teenagers face. This film is one of the first films I’ve viewed which portrays an Asian culture as what it truly is. Unlike many other films and scenes in Hollywood cinema, this film did not use negative stereotypes or derogatory topics as its main base. Director Gene Cajayon is from the Filipino agency and grew up in its heritage; this reflects on the films true use of Tagalog, traditions, relationships, and cultural values. What was particularly enjoyable was the scenes of dancing and singing that are accurate presentations of the Tinikling dance with string instruments. Although the quality of the acting in the film is debatable, it was satisfying to see an Asian culture accurately presented.…

Many luxuries are granted to the citizens of the U.S. such as technology that helps us get through the day. These luxuries are not available to people in other countries and I believe that if I had to step into one of the four children in the movie On the Way to School I could handle living Carlos’s life. Carlos lives in Argentina and is 11 years old which is near my age, but that is the only thing we have slightly in common. We live completely different lives and Carlos does not have all the luxuries I have. Out of the all the other kids Carlos is the most modern of the four his clothes are similar to mine and he lives in a small house made up of bricks. Despite the differences in the smaller aspects of our lives I believe that we do have similarities no matter how few there are. This is why I believe I would be able to handle stepping into his shoes and having to live his life.…

In the first of the Divergent series, there are several differences between the movie and the book. These differences prove to make the book more enjoyable to readers. It is a typical thing in literature for a book to be more enjoyable to the reader than the movie will be as the reader has the freedom to decide what his own scenes look like. The book is superior to the movie in that the representations of violence are less in most ways than in the book. Also, the characters portrayal is much different when comparing the book and movie. Lastly, there is a significant difference in the chemistry and feelings of love, at least that are portrayed in the book are nonexistent in the movie.…

127 Hours is thrilling movie comprised of a true story based on the real life situation outdoorsmen Aron Ralston encounters in April of 2003 while on the Horseshoe Canyon Trailhead out of Emery, Utah (Ralston, #1-2). 127 Hours, based on Ralston’s book Between a Rock and a Hard Place, aired in January 2011 with Aron Ralston being played by well-known actor James Franco. He documents his days of survival with a video camera he brought along, possibly a key aspect in his ability to keep sane. He fights dehydration, fatigue, the elements of nature, and his own mind in order to survive. Mood is the emotions of the reader and tone is the author’s attitude toward a subject. The mood of the Mary Poppins trailer is delightful and seems magical. In the beginning of the video, they have words about the movie and they say how wonderful it is. Music was playing and it was happy and upbeat music. There is lots of dancing and they all seem to be enjoying themselves. The tone seems to also be happy, same as the mood. If this trailer was scary and had scary music playing, then the author would not have a happy tone.…

The trailer did a very well job of giving enough information but not too much to give the movie away. Although it did a very well job the trailer could have not replayed some scenes twice throughout and made sure they were only played once. By playing them twice it was repetitive in something maybe that was not so important. The trailer emphasized the usage of color and camera angle to help show the emotions of Auggie and the way people view…

Often movies are made out of blockbuster books. Sometimes the movies do a good job of capturing the most important moments from the book and presenting them in the movie. Unfortunately, some movies do not always accurately depict the books they represent with full details. There are many reasons why a movie depiction of a book fails not least of which is because they are only given a couple of hours to tell the whole story in the book. A book is able to go in depth with the character’s emotions and experiences while a movie based on the book is limited by the length of the film. Movies are presented from how a director sees the book and often times does not even use the same dialog that is used in the book. While many movies that are made from books stay true to the book, The Kite Runner movie, directed by Marc Forster, does not give a complete understanding of the book of the same name written by Khaled Hosseini.…
