Swoosh! Bang! Pow! The man hits Lavinia in the gut with a baseball bat. She falls to the floor and with a thud, she hits her head on the doorknob and is now unconscious. The Lonely One covers her face with a mask and ties her hands behind her back. He turned off the lights, picked her up, and then threw her over his shoulder. He checked to make sure the coast was clear and then carried her to his car and put her in the back seat. What he did not know is that as he shut the door Francine was calling, and when Lavinia did not answer, she called Helen and they headed towards Lavinia’s house.
When they arrived, they found the baseball bat that The Lonely One hit Lavinia with. They found this awfully strange because Lavinia did not play any sports and she did not have a husband nor kids that played sports either, so when they found the bat, they were very puzzled. They decided to call to police. What the police found strange was that when they got to Lavinia’s house, Helen and Francine were not there, so they just turned around and went back to the station.

They arrived at the drugstore that Lavinia had been at earlier that morning. The man opened up the back door and pulled Lavinia out but when he tried throwing her over his shoulder, she punched him across the face and then she took off running. The Lonely One fell to the ground, but got up quickly and chased Lavinia. He caught her very quickly and he hit her in the stomach multiple times until she fell to the ground hitting her head on the sidewalk, once again knocking her unconscious. The Lonely One dragged her back to the store and took her

In a book titled “Lone Survivors” by Chris Stringer, Stringer presents to us his interpretations of the origin of modern humans. Previously, there were two fossils including a tooth and a finger of a female and male, found in the Denisova cave of Siberia which revealed a species that was perhaps indirectly related to both the Neanderthals as well as Homo Sapiens. In addition, they have unique features that are enough to separate them to their own distinct species. These fossils convinced Stringer that perhaps modern humans today are not a pure species but rather a mixture of other hominid groups. Neanderthal genes may still be in us.…

What’s difference between being alone and feeling lonely? Some say loneliness is the unhappiness that is often felt when they do not have friends or no one to turn to; some say loneliness is an emotion, but being alone can be a choice. Being to many places usually out of everyone’s travel plan, Pico Iyer finds that we often feel lonely when we are in a crowd, but not part of the it. In his work, “Lonely Places,” Pico Iyer depicts a unique outlook of several “lonely places” where are geographically connected to many neighbors, but politically or socially isolated. However, by focusing on the temporary situations of the “lonely places,” Iyer underestimated the potential of once undeveloped places and misconstrued the real content of people in…

Loneliness and isolation are both factors of depression, ironically with this story in The Great Depression. In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, set in The Great Depression, George and Lennie get a job at a ranch after previous failed attempts at other jobs due to Lennie’s childlike disorder. They start to get used to their jobs alongside with Crooks, Candy, and Curley and his wife. Lennie’s childlike disorder, however, caused him to accidentally murder Curley’s wife, which ultimately led to his own death. Steinbeck’s description and dialogue expresses his attitude that loneliness and isolation were caused both by social barriers and personal choice, which in some cases, led to death.…
