In this journal, I will be evaluating Archie’s decision to kill or not kill Gretchen Lowell and questioning. First of all, Archie had plenty of reasons why he should have shot Gretchen. For example, Archie could have killed her because she separated Archie from his family mentally. An example of Gretchen separating Archie mentally from his family could be “He is there for the victims. This is what he’s told himself, what he’s told Henry, Debbie” (Cain 288). That quote has importance because it displays that Gretchen has changed Archie’s way of thinking. She had him thinking it is “okay” to visit her every sunday in jail so he could get information about all the murders she has done. In anybody else's mind, including Archie’s family, it is not okay to see the serial killer that tortured a family member. Archie and his family think differently about his actions involving Gretchen, which separates Archie from his family mentally.
