Classroom management can be defined as the organization, set up, and structure of a classroom that constitutes to a positive learning environment and maintains student involvement. The book I chose is Classroom Management for Middle and High School Teachers. The overall book was based on research in which the author’s observed and did research in hundreds of classrooms and schools. Throughout this paper, I will summarize the classroom management book as well as discuss strategies that stood out to me and that will be useful in the classroom. If a child sees that the work is too complicated or too easy, discipline problems may arise. When teachers have structure over the classroom and have discussed the rules and procedures with their students, they are ready to combine management and instruction. There are many activities that teachers can use to carry out lessons that include recitation, discussion, small group work, and seat work. One of the strategies for management and instruction that will help me as a future educator is discussion. Engaging students in classroom discussions is a way to see if the students understand the content. Some of the strategies for minor interventions include redirecting the behavior, using nonverbal cues and giving the student a choice. In each of these strategies students may be off task and need a push to get back on task. A strategy that will work for me as a future educator is redirecting the negative behavior. In this strategy, the student is reminded of appropriate behavior when they are off task and they are told what they should be doing. This will work for me because this is short and to the point for students to easily get back on task without receiving excessive attention for the
