Annotated summary:
This book is about two children who find magical red books. At the beginning of the story, the little girl is walking to school and finds a red book in the snow. Simultaneously, a little boy who lives on an island is walking along the shore and finds a red book in the sand. When they open these books, they realize that they are able to see each other. Then, the girl buys several balloons which take her to the island where the boy lives. During her journey, she loses her red book and another person in the city picks it up. In the end, the two children see each other in person.
